Getting the Online Adjunct Income You Deserve

[picappgallerysingle id="80133"]You committed to the rigors of graduate school and held your intellectual ground until you had that earned master’s degree or Ph.D. in your hand, but now the economic travails have left you unemployed or underemployed and it’s time to do something about it. Distance education technology is making it possible to teach new and returning college students enrolled in online bachelor degree programs and online masters degree programs and generate multiple income streams that can be scaled up or down depending on what you decide you need in terms of teaching load and financial remuneration.

Far too few of those with the necessary academic credentials are aware of how economic inviting teaching online college courses for community colleges, state college, four-year universities and for profit school can be when the efficiency of distance education is taken into consideration. For example, online college classes can run for much less time than the traditional sixteen week semester that is normal at physical post-secondary institutions. Many for profit school offer their students online classes that run from five to eight weeks in length, and many more offer eleven-week quarters so that students can earn their online nursing degree, online market degree or online business administration degree in a shorter period of time.

For online adjunct instructors this means that it is possible to teach more online classes throughout the year, and thus dramatically increase the total amount they earn over a twelve month period. As traditional college adjuncts know all too well, the summer months go by slowly without the resultant paychecks from the classes that are usually given to the full-time faculty members, but with online college courses running straight through the summer the need for a college instructor teaching on an adjunct basis to eat shoe soup in July is no longer a necessity.

An aggressive search strategy could yield four or five online bachelor degree programs to teach for at the same time, and it is not at all out of the ordinary to teach two online classes for each of the online college programs, which would populate an online teaching schedule with as many as six to eight online college courses. Of course, each of the online courses would generate a paycheck, and, if the beginning dates of the individual courses is staggered, it would not be at all unusual to receive a very healthy payment each and every week for about eleven months of the year. Certainly, this would be a vast improvement over what the usual experience at traditional academic institutions.

Granted, teaching that many online classes all at once would be a challenge, but it can be done with a little determination and focus. The best way to start investigating to possibility of teaching online as an online college instructor is to visit the individual websites of the over five thousand colleges and for profit schools. Every post-secondary academic institution now has a website and on that website is a section specifically designed to receive your academic credentials. Make the effort to find multiple online adjunct jobs and you can ultimately get the online adjunct income you deserve.
